Phoenix Canariensis Canary Island Date palm

fresh seeds of this beautiful Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix Canariensis) also called: Pineapple palm. Grows in sunny, well drained soil. Moderate grower to 30-50 feet. It can be cultivated where temperatures never fall below -10/-12 ?C, although it will require some protection if cold periods are longer than normal. This is one of the most beautiful and expensive palms and if you can have only one, this should be the one.

Seeds from this Canary Island Date Palm Phoenix Canariensis also called: Pineapple palm. Grows in sunny, well drained soil. Moderate grower to 30 to 50 feet. It can be cultivated where temperatures never fall below minus 10 to minus 12 C, although it will require some protection if cold periods are longer than normal. This is one of the most and expensive palms and if you can have only one, this should be the one.

Also a popular ornamental, the date palm graces landscapes anywhere freezing temperatures are non-existent or of brief duration. The stem is covered with old leaf bases and is topped with a dense head of bright green pinnate leaves that grow to about 4 ft in length. Cream colored flowers are on short, 1 ft inflorescences and are followed by small black dates on the female plants. Although this palm is single stemmed most of the time you see it grouped in 3 or 5 per planting. When grouped like this, the stems tend to curve away from the center of the clump creating an especially attractive grouping especially as at a garden entrance.

Hardy in zones 8b-11.It is similar to canariensis but not as massive. It's faster growing with a large leaf crown. Petioles are tinged in orange. This palm is an excellent choice for those who live in hot and cold areas.  This palm is tolerant of most soil conditions, but would prefer a quick draining soil

This palm is an excellent choice for those who live in hot and cold areas. This palm is tolerant of most soil conditions, but would prefer a quick draining soil.

Seeds from physalis edulis or cape gooseberry. These, native to warm temperate and subtropical regions, herbaceous plants produce delicious hard to find super sweet fruits which are a relative of and similar to the common tomato. The Cape gooseberry is a useful small crop for the home garden. The fruit is expensive to purchase as it is labor intensive in commercial gardens. Very easy to grow from seed, similar to tomatoes, it is not cold hardy at 26F, though it can overwinter outdoors in mild areas or when grown in warm positions such as against a sunny wall, where some will tolerate temperatures down to about 14F. Developing a straw colored husk much larger than the fruit which take 70 to 80 days to mature. As the fruits ripen, they begin to drop to the ground, but will continue to mature and change from green to the golden yellow of the mature fruit. Self pollinated but pollination is enhanced by a gentle shaking of the flowering stems or giving the plants a light spraying with water.
