Aristolochia Ridicula

Ridicula This plant of the beautiful tropical tender perennial vine called Aristolochia ridicula. This exotic vine is in the dutchman's pipevine family, and is hardy in zones 8a-10b. It blossoms best in light shade and will stay evergreen all year in the above zones. A real attraction with its 2in triangle shaped maroon blossoms and furry-like leaves and stem. The plants will grow up to 10 feet if you let them climb on a structure. I do not use any chemicals on my plants and therefore at certain times of the year you are able to find nibbles here and there on this, and most of the host plants for butterflies.

Starter plant of Aristolochia ringens or Gaping Pipevine. This fast growing vine, grows to 20-30ft, but it can also spread 3-4 feet. It is adaptable and can be grown in subtropical areas, tropical areas, and any place where temperatures don't frequently drop below 30F. It also does well in low light conditions and can be grown indoors. Will tolerate high humidity or arid climates with little rain, although irrigation should be provided.  As with most all tropical plants, all parts of this plant are poisonous.
