Here I am offering seeds from Asclepias purpurascens, also known as Purple Milkweed. A perennial plant with bright purple pink umbrellas that grow 2 to 4 feet tall and proliferate in full sun. A full array of butterflies are the bonus with this plant. These tend to die back here in Georgia. They will come back from the root. Unlike other milkweeds, this one stays in check and does not start shooting up baby plants and spreading all over the place. Plants grow 28 inches tall and have flat umbels of red flowers with golden centers. Plants are loved by butterflies. Soak seed in warm water for 24 hours sow and lightly cover, germination in 5-20 days. These plants are perennials and grow in full sun and sandy soil is best for them. Quite a drought tolerant plants and is a real attraction to the garden with its bright golden blossoms, We recommend that tropical milkweed, which can be generally called Asclepias curassavica, should be cut back in the winter and fall months in the southern U.S. and California.
